At least 25 people were injured when a section of railing collapsed during a college football game in Ottawa, tossing an undetermined number of spectators 10 feet to the pavement.

Ottawa Police Inspector Jim Carroll said a 23-foot section of railing at Lansdowne Park gave way. Some of the injuries appeared to be serious, he said.

The accident occurred at halftime of a game between the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. The game was delayed about an hour as ambulances carried the injured away.

Carroll said a crowd was pressing against the railing, “and with the pressure being exerted against the railing, the railing gave way.”
