Lawmakers in Washington said congressional negotiators are ready to quash the Navy’s plan to base the battleship Missouri in San Francisco Bay. Sen. Pete Wilson (R-Calif.), a leader of the plan, said Senate negotiators on a congressional joint conference committee had favored the $22-million proposal to base the refurbished World War II ship at San Francisco, but are now leaning toward agreement with the House--which is against spending the money. “Now that the Democrats control both houses of Congress,” Wilson said, “it’s highly possible they will prevail and succeed in eliminating the home-porting funds for San Francisco.”
