Gardena : Grant to Add to Senior Unit

Share

A recently approved $4.1-million federal grant will be used to finance the construction of 74 additional units at the South Gardena Park senior citizens housing project.

There are 125 units at the site, on the north side of Artesia Boulevard between Vermont and Normandie avenues.

The facility is owned, operated and managed by Cooperative Services Inc., a nonprofit corporation that specializes in senior citizen housing.

Ground breaking for the additional units, funded by a Department of Housing and Urban Development grant, is set for March, 1988. Assistant City Manager Mitchell Lansdell estimates that construction will be completed a year later.

Applicants for the new units must meet a $12,550 maximum yearly income qualification for individuals or a $13,350 maximum for couples. According to Lansdell, there are more than 100 names on the waiting list for the existing units and those people will have priority consideration for the new units.
