Long Beach : Council Votes 5% Pay Raise

Share

The Long Beach City Council gave itself a 5% pay raise Tuesday. Without any discussion, the council tentatively approved increasing members’ monthly salaries to $1,157.63, a $55 increase. The raise, scheduled for final approval next week, will become effective in January.

In July, council members will receive another pay raise when their annual salary of $13,230 increases to $16,875. Voters last November approved the increase in combination with creation of a full-time mayor position, said Sheila Parsons, executive assistant to the mayor and the council. Once the mayor’s job becomes full-time and he or she earns $67,500, council members are scheduled to make 25% of the mayor’s salary, Parsons explained.
