Local News in Brief : Councilwoman Resigns
- Share via
Redondo Beach Councilwoman Marcia Martin has resigned, saying she lacks sufficient time for the job since becoming an Orange County sheriff’s deputy.
Since March, when Martin entered the Sheriff’s Academy, she has missed more of the council’s weekly meetings than she has attended and often has left meetings early. She became a deputy in July.
“I just don’t have the time to give council meetings the time they deserve, and my livelihood must come first,” said Martin, 36, in announcing her resignation at a council meeting Tuesday. The resignation takes effect Nov. 30.
Martin was elected to the council in 1983 and won a new four-year term in March by a five-vote margin.
A special election will be scheduled, a city official said.
