Raiders : Dokie Williams Wants to Go Home, Seeks Trade to Chargers

Memo to Al Davis: The strike may be over, but Dokie Williams doesn’t want to be with the Raiders.

Williams’ agent, Bruce Singman, has sent a letter to Davis, advising him: “Dokie desires to be traded immediately to the San Diego Chargers.”

Williams, a San Diego native, is smarting from the loss of his starting job this season, following the acquisitions of James Lofton and Mervyn Fernandez.

Williams is now on the Raider punt and kickoff teams.

In the season opener at Green Bay, he was surpassed even by Jessie Hester, who was sent in on the three-receiver sets until he dropped a pass and Williams took his place. Against the Detroit Lions, Williams caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from Rusty Hilger, making him the first and only regular wide receiver to score this season.

Williams has rejoined the Raiders and is practicing. He says he prefers not to comment on his request.

Williams, one of the most popular players on the Raider roster, is not without support among his teammates. Several of them suggest that Dokie is as good as either Lofton or Fernandez, and may be better than either.

Williams has been fuming silently since the season started.

Singman said he tried to talk to Davis about his client’s plight, but was refused, and told instead by Raider official Mike Reinfeldt: “Let’s see what happens.”
