NBC President Robert C. Wright, venturing a few post-strike jokes Tuesday in New York, said the company has been sold to comedian David Letterman--who “has agreed to keep me on as a daily hire.” NBC’s proposals on such by-the-day employees were a key issue in the National Assn. of Broadcast Engineers and Technicians’ 17-week strike against the company. The walkout officially ended Saturday, but workers won’t be going back till next week. Speaking at an International Radio and Television Society luncheon, Wright also said he has gotten some awards since becoming NBC’s chief. Among other things, he noted, “I have recently been nominated to be the AFL-CIO man of the year.”
