Armed robbers made off with $375,000 in gems and cash Tuesday from a Hillcrest jewelry store, but the loot was found early Wednesday in a suitcase when police arrested the suspected robbers at a Normal Heights home.

The robbery occurred at 2:15 p.m. when two men, armed with pistols, walked into Currie & Underwood at 3957 Goldfinch St., and took diamonds, rubies and emeralds and some cash, police said.

By Tuesday night, investigators had identified two suspects, Robert C. Carroll, 41, of San Diego, and Richard Morrison, 42, residence unknown. The two were arrested at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday at Carroll’s home in the 4600 block of Hawley Boulevard. The jewels and the cash were found in a suitcase, police said.
