More than a dozen sheriff’s deputies and volunteers searched the rural Glen Avon area of northern Riverside County on Wednesday for a 4-year-old boy who disappeared Tuesday from a car parked at a convenience store.

Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Don Bender said that Bobby Crawford was waiting in the car outside the store near the intersection of Pedley Road and Mission Boulevard while his mother’s boyfriend and his 18-month-old brother, Jason, were inside.

Bender said the boyfriend, Raymond Farrell, 29, told investigators he and Jason were inside for only a minute or two, but came out to find the car empty.

Deputies went from house to house in the sparsely populated area and helicopters searched the hills, but they found no trace of the boy, who was described as about 3 feet tall and thin, with brown hair and eyes. He was wearing a yellow tank-top, brown Levi’s and gray tennis shoes.
