KTLA-TV Channel 5’s “Return to the Titanic . . . Live,” which aired Wednesday night, won the local ratings for the evening and was the station’s second-highest-rated prime-time show “since anyone ever started counting” with a 25.8 rating and a 37 share, a station spokesman said Thursday. The only KTLA show ever to rate higher: Geraldo Rivera’s live opening of Al Capone’s empty vault. Interest in the live opening of a satchel and a safe fetched from the wreck of the Titanic (they contained gold coins and pendants and other jewelry of mostly historical value) carried over to KTLA’s 11 p.m. news broadcast, almost doubling its average rating.
