The National Hockey League suspended goaltender Patrick Roy of the Montreal Canadiens for eight games for slashing Minnesota forward Warren Babe in a game against the North Stars Oct. 19.

NHL Executive Vice President Bryan O’Neill also announced that New Jersey defenseman Jack O’Callahan was given a three-game suspension as the result of a match penalty incurred in a game against Pittsburgh Oct. 21.

Both teams indicated that they will not appeal the suspensions.
