Costa Mesa Vote on Excess Funds

Measure C will give the Costa Mesa voters a choice on what will be done with the $2.1-million tax proceeds (in excess of the 1979 Gann Property Tax Initiative) in the city treasury. If the voters pass this measure, these excess funds would further augment the base funding already allocated for street, sidewalk, curb repairs and parkway tree plantings and maintenance.

The average property owner would receive a property tax credit of about $65 to $75. Many homeowner groups feel that the community will greatly benefit by pooling together our resources for needed repairs, rather than receiving a small tax credit. Many large property owners would stand to receive the largest tax credits--some more than $100,000. Our renters in the city would receive nothing.

Costa Mesa cannot afford to go the way of most aging cities with overwhelming repairs. As a community, we must act together in pooling our financial resources to invest in our city’s economic and aesthetic future.

Not only do our individual property values increase with such wise programs but our school children will have more safe sidewalks, our roadways will be more safe and there will be more and better maintained parkway trees.

Vote yes on Measure C.
