Drag Finals Are Washed Out by Rain; Races Postponed Until Next Weekend
Joe Amato and Dick LaHaie will have to wait another week to decide who will win the $100,000 bonus as top fuel champion of the National Hot Rod Assn.
After rain washed out Saturday’s Winston Finals program at the Fairplex drag strip in Pomona, NHRA officials decided to postpone the final two days until next weekend.
Amato holds a 162-point lead, 12,382 to 12,220, but as many as 1,100 points are at stake in the finals.
The Cragar/Weld Wheel event, which pays an additional $50,000 to the winner of an eight-car top fuel field, will be held Saturday, along with two rounds of qualifying in the pro categories.
All finals will be held next Sunday.
