Local News in Brief : Beach Warnings Still Up

Share

Beaches along an 80-mile stretch of Los Angeles County coastline were still posted with health warnings Monday as scientists tested the water for contamination from 4.1 million gallons of partly treated sewage washed out to sea by heavy weekend rains.

There was no known public health hazard because the sewage was screened to remove solids and treated with chlorine to kill germs, said Anna Sklar, a spokeswoman for the city Department of Public Works.

The warnings on all beaches in the county were a precautionary measure taken while experts await test results due today, Sklar said.
