Bonita Schools : Recall Election Scheduled

Share

Voters in San Dimas and La Verne may decide Feb. 23 whether to recall Robert Green from the Bonita Unified School District’s board of trustees.

The date of the special election, set last week by the school board, has not been confirmed by the county registrar-recorder.

The board scheduled the election after the registrar-recorder certified that recall proponents had submitted enough valid signatures. If the board had not set the date, the registrar-recorder’s office would have scheduled the election, said county spokeswoman Marcia Ventura.

Voters in the special election will also choose a successor to Green if he is recalled, Ventura said. If the election is held Feb. 23, those who wish to have their names appear on the ballot as alternative candidates will have until Dec. 17 to file. If Green is ousted, the highest vote-getter among the alternative candidates will replace him. Unsuccessful candidates in last Tuesday’s school board election are eligible to run in the special election, she said.

Of 7,079 signatures turned in by the committee of teachers and parents that backed the recall, 5,663 were valid, Ventura said. To qualify a recall measure for the ballot, the committee needed to collect 5,644 signatures, representing 20% of the registered voters in the district.
