A South El Monte woman who allegedly kidnaped two children from their suburban homes was arrested Friday in a Las Vegas casino after one of the youngsters asked a guard to call her father, authorities said.
Las Vegas police arrested Carmen Trujillo, 38, on suspicion of kidnaping Evelyn Ruiz, 7, also of South El Monte, and Matthew Tinajaro, 3, of El Monte, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Detta Roberts said.
Trujillo allegedly went to the children’s homes about 7 p.m. Thursday night and told their baby sitters that she was going to treat the youngsters to a movie, Roberts said.
She then drove the children, along with her two daughters, ages 5 and 11, to Las Vegas, where she checked into the Circus Circus Hotel Casino, Roberts said.
Investigators said Trujillo is acquainted with the youngsters’ families and had no trouble convincing the baby sitters that she should take them. But it was not immediately known why the children were kidnaped.
