Woman Sought in Abduction of Her Son
Police were looking Saturday night for a woman suspected of abducting her 14-month-old son from protective custody at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys.
The woman, Diane Allen, 30, had been living in a halfway house for drug addicts in North Hollywood, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Fred Haptonstal said.
The incident took place at 8:10 p.m. in the hospital’s pediatrics ward, Haptonstal said.
The child had been placed in protective custody at the hospital after being abused by his father, Haptonstal said.
The mother was allowed to visit the child, “but tonight she decided to take the baby,” the sergeant said.
The mother left the hospital with the baby and carried him on a bicycle to the home of a relative in Van Nuys, police said. She took a yellow Ford Pinto of the relative’s and has not been seen since, police said.
