Glasnost appears to have ameliorated quite a few long-standing diplomatic feuds. It was announced that the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra will appear in Poland and Hungary for concerts--the first in Warsaw Pact nations since the Soviet bloc severed relations with the Jewish state in the 1967 Middle East War. The Philharmonic--led by its music director, Indian-born conductor Zubin Mehta--will perform five dates in Poland and one in Budapest, Hungary’s capital.
