Gang members fatally stabbed a teen-ager from a rival gang early Sunday at a coming-out party in North Hollywood, Los Angeles police said.

Joel Garcia, 16, of Van Nuys, was stabbed repeatedly outside the United Auto Workers Hall at 11625 Sherman Way, which had been rented for the quinceanera celebration for a 15-year-old girl, police Detective Ray Davies said. The celebration is traditional among Latino families to mark a daughter’s 15th birthday.

Garcia was taken to Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Panorama City, where he died at 5 a.m., Davies said. No other injuries were reported and no suspects are in custody.
