SAN LUIS OBISPO — The Unit 2 reactor at the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant was shut down for repair of an electrical malfunction, a Pacific Gas & Electric spokesman said Sunday.
Operators shut down the reactor at 1:15 p.m. Saturday when the electrical problem developed in equipment between the unit’s main electrical generator and main transformer, utility spokesman Chuck Peterson said. The problem was not associated with the unit’s nuclear system, he said.
The reactor was likely to remain shut down for several days, depending on availability of replacement parts, he said.
