Off-Duty Soldier Killed in Struggle With Police

NEWARK, N.J. —
A veteran Army sergeant was shot and killed and another sergeant was wounded in a struggle with a state trooper who found drugs hidden in their car during a routine traffic stop on the New Jersey Turnpike, police said Tuesday.
The soldiers, neither in uniform, were hit with shots fired during a struggle for the police officer’s gun, troopers said. The surviving soldier was charged with attempted murder.
