A Glendale woman was killed when the car in which she was riding struck another vehicle and crashed head-on into a traffic signal pole, police said.

Pauline Gorton, 61, died Sunday afternoon after suffering skull fractures, leg fractures and chest injuries in the accident earlier that day.

Her husband, Rockwood Gordon, 69, driver of the vehicle, was listed in stable condition Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Burbank where he is being treated for multiple leg fractures, a concussion and numerous other injuries, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police said the Gortons’ Chevrolet was speeding when it struck the rear end of a Datsun as the two vehicles traveled southbound on Jackson Street in Glendale. The Datsun was pushed forward about 110 feet after the crash while the Chevrolet collided with the signal pole on the northeast corner of Jackson Street and Broadway, police said.

The driver of the Datsun, Stanley Lodter, 62, of Glendale was taken to Glendale Memorial Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
