SDSU Gains 6-8 Forward From Colorado

Alex Sund, a 6-foot 8-inch, 210-pound forward from Golden (Colo.) High School, said he signed a national letter of intent Wednesday to attend San Diego State on a basketball scholarship.

Sund, who averaged 18 points and nine rebounds as a junior last season, said he selected SDSU over the University of San Diego, Pepperdine and UC Irvine.

“I selected San Diego State because of the coach,” Sund said. “Coach (Jim Brandenburg) has been recruiting me since I was a sophomore. I really liked him, and I really liked the idea of playing in Southern California.”

Said Jerry Goings, Golden’s first-year coach: “Alex is not the most polished player. He is not someone who is going to step right in and make an impact as a freshman. He is more a let’s-see-what-he-can-do type. But he has great potential.”

Wednesday was the start of an eight-day early signing period for high school seniors and junior college basketball recruits. Players who do not commit during the next week must wait until April 13 to sign.
