Vachon: Kings Have Not Let Redmond Go Yet

CALGARY, Canada — Alan Eagleson, agent for suspended Craig Redmond, may have been premature when he said the Kings had given Redmond permission to join the Canadian Olympic team. “The deal is not finished yet,” Rogie Vachon, the Kings’ general manager, said Thursday.
The Kings want Redmond, who was suspended when he failed to report last month to the Kings’ American Hockey League affiliate at New Haven, Conn., to waive his salary. The defenseman’s father, Harry, said his son has agreed, although it would cost him about $20,000 a month. Vachon said: “If we can’t trade him in the next few days, we’ll let him join the Olympic team.”
King Notes
The Kings will play the Calgary Flames at the Olympic Saddledome tonight. . . . Defenseman Jay Wells broke the little toe on his right foot Tuesday night against Edmonton and did not make the trip. . . .Rookie Craig Duncanson has been assigned to New Haven.
