Office Building, Station Rising in San Diego

A public/private partnership is constructing a $25-million, 10-story office building and trolley transfer station on the site of the 60-year-old Concrete Tie building at 12th and Imperial avenues in San Diego.
The 180,000-square foot building, scheduled for completion in early 1989, will house offices of the Metropolitan Transit Development Board and San Diego County agencies, including Social Services, Revenue and Recovery, Housing and Community Health and the Environmental Health departments.
Designed by Delawie/Bretton/Wilkes Associates AIA of San Diego, the building is a joint development of Starboard Developers of San Diego, the Metropolitan Transit Development Board and San Diego County. The structure is being built by M. H. Golden Co. and includes a four-level, 663-space parking garage and a 15-story clock tower.
“This project will be challenging because we must build the office structure over the trolley tracks, yet the trolley will continue to run throughout the construction process,” according to John Bradel of Golden.
