Local rockabilly champs the Paladins are out with their first album on Wrestler Records, the Austin, Tex., label credited with launching the nationwide “American roots-rock” movement.

The album, simply titled “The Paladins,” contains 11 blistering tunes recorded by guitarist and vocalist Dave Gonzalez, bassist Tom Yearsley and drummer Scott Campbell. Included is a lean-sounding rendition of “Let ‘er Roll,” the gut-slamming western-swing classic by Sid King and the Five Strings that has long been one of the Paladins’ more popular live numbers.

The musicians’ current American tour brings them back home Nov. 28, when they perform at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach.

- After months of negotiations, another local rock band, the Jacks, has signed with Rounder Records, the Boston label best known for unleashing the urban slide-guitar blues talents of George Thorogood and the Destroyers.

Led by ex-Beat Farmer Buddy Blue, the Jacks specialize in what the impish guitarist-singer calls “East Coast guinea music,” an updated version of the blue-eyed soul that Italian-American bands like the Young Rascals were playing in the middle 1960s.

The Jacks’ debut album, “Aliens Bought My Chevy,” should be out by February, Blue said.
