Memorial Dinner on Sunday for Feminist Poet-Activist

A public memorial for nationally known poet-activist Karen Brodine will be held Sunday at 1918 W. 7th St., Room 204, in Los Angeles. Brodine, a socialist feminist writer, poet, editor and organizer, died Oct. 18 at age 40 in her San Francisco home. She had metastatic breast and liver cancer.

Brodine was a national leader of Radical Women and the Freedom Socialist Party. A widely recognized poet and popular poetry reader, her essays and poetry have been printed and reviewed in national and international literary, feminist, gay and radical publications.

Brodine continued writing, public readings and organizing until her death.

Public memorial meetings in honor of Brodine are being held across the nation and in Melbourne, Australia. The commemorative program in Los Angeles will be at 2 p.m. It will feature readings of her poetry, reminiscences by friends and song, followed by a buffet and social. Donation for the dinner is $6.
