The Federal Trade Commission said it will seek a court order blocking the proposed $750-million takeover of glass container manufacturer Brockway Inc. by privately held Owens-Illinois Inc. The FTC said it had reason to believe that the takeover could substantially reduce competition in the manufacturing and sale of some glass containers. Owens-Illinois and Brockway are effectively the country’s second- and third-largest manufacturers, respectively, of glass containers, and together account for 40% of the U.S. market.
