Atlanta will be the site of major league baseball’s annual winter meetings in December 1988, according to a published report.

The Atlanta Constitution reported in today’s editions that Atlanta was chosen over Los Angeles as the location for the meetings, which usually last about five days.

The meetings draw representatives from every major and minor league team and serve as a combination trade show and business gathering.

This year’s meetings will be held in Dallas next month.

The Atlanta Chamber of Commerce approached the National Assn. of Professional Baseball Leagues during the summer about considering Atlanta as its 1988 meeting site, the report said. Commissioner Peter Ueberroth’s desire to hold the meetings in a geographically convenient city was a big factor in Atlanta’s selection, the newspaper said.

The report quoted Bob Sparks, director of the league association’s promotion corporation, as saying Atlanta “is a good spot, and we received good cooperation from the local people and the Chamber of Commerce.”
