For Openers, Pincay Deals Out a Pair of Stakes Victories at Hollywood Park
Laffit Pincay rode the winners of both stakes on opening day at Hollywood Park Wednesday, clicking with Variety Baby in the Moccasin and with Fleet Road in the Askmenow.
A crowd of 15,646 bet $3.7 million. In 1984, when Hollywood Park had the Breeders’ Cup, as it does Saturday, the attendance on the opening Wednesday was 17,472 and the handle $4.1 million.
Variety Baby, a 2-year-old filly who is undefeated in three starts, came on in the stretch to beat Deanna’s Special by 1 lengths and paid $7.20 to win. Lets Fall in Love, the favorite, finished third.
In the Askmenow, favored Fleet Road paid $5.40 after beating Saros Brig by 1 3/4 lengths. Beseya finished third.
