Voyager Lands in Air Museum

The first aircraft to fly around the world non-stop without refueling was added to the National Air and Space Museum today as the record-setting Voyager reached its final destination.

The experimental aircraft, piloted by Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager, completed the record 25,012-mile flight in nine days on Dec. 23, 1986, beginning and ending its flight at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. Voyager takes its place beside such aviation milestones as the Wright brothers’ 1903 “Flyer,” Charles Lindbergh’s “Spirit of St. Louis,” and the Apollo 11 command module, which carried man to the moon for the first time.
