Former Nebraska Gov. Bob Kerrey, who rose from political anonymity in 1982 to upset the incumbent Republican governor, said Friday that he will seek the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate.

No other Democrats have formally entered the race. On the Republican side, Sen. David Karnes, who was appointed to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Democratic Sen. Edward Zorinsky, and Rep. Hal Daub have begun campaigning.
