Speaking Up for Murry Sidlin

I am concerned by the report of (Long Beach Symphony) General Manager Mary Newkirk that only 15 to 20 letters supporting Murry Sidlin had been received at the Long Beach Symphony’s office. Why haven’t other subscribers written a brief letter of support--just a simple, honest statement: “Keep Murry Sidlin. Rehire!”

This reported lack of support for Sidlin was not apparent at the Nov. 6 concert. Although barred from parking on the upper level of the parking structure, blocked by an inoperative escalator (running at the end of the concert) and a long wait for adequate lighting in that theater--a near full-house crowd attended the pre-concert lecture and gave Sidlin a warm, standing ovation. It certainly sounded to me that most of those there really want Murry to remain with the symphony.

I see the villains as the business-oriented executive committee superimposed by city government. Let us all speak up and urge that Murry Sidlin remain with the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra. Write your letter now.
