Councilwoman’s Farewell

Share

Redondo Beach Councilwoman Marcia Martin said a simple goodby Tuesday night at the last City Council meeting before her resignation takes effect Nov. 30.

“On this, what is probably my last meeting of the City Council, I’d like to say thanks to everybody here and staff and citizens. And there’s a lot of things I’ll miss, but there’s a lot of things I won’t miss either,” she said, without elaborating.

Martin, 36, has occasionally expressed frustration with the political infighting between Mayor Barbara J. Doerr and the other four City Council members.

“To be a real effective politician, you have to step on some toes,” she said in an interview, adding that she was not comfortable being an aggressive politician.

Martin announced her resignation last month, saying she wanted to pursue her career police work and no longer had the time to devote to her elected office. She became an Orange County sheriff’s deputy shortly after winning a close reelection fight in March.
