Lament for a Rhino
If all San Diego Zoo animals were given the special care enjoyed by the visiting pandas, the rare female white rhino might still be alive. Instead, it bled to death after spending three days stuffed in a tiny crate.
Between the threat of poachers in the wild, and the often hellish conditions at zoos, wild animals stand a slim chance for survival. If zoos can’t guarantee safe, humane conditions for all their animals, they should be forced out of business by a boycott.
