A 16-year-old youth was killed when a speeding car struck his van broadside, the California Highway Patrol reported Monday.
Christopher Billings of La Mesa was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Explorer Road west of Bobbie Lane, a CHP spokesman said.
James Collin McCoy, 18, of the 1000 block of Louisa Street in La Mesa, allegedly was driving faster than 50 m.p.h. in the residential area at the time of the accident. He was taken to Grossmont Hospital and treated for abrasions to the head, right knee and shoulder, the spokesman said.
McCoy was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving and manslaughter, he said.
