A 45-year-old man was fatally injured when his car rolled over him while he checked his signal lights in preparation for a camping trip, authorities said Wednesday.

William Eugene Lydon of Yorba Linda died of head and chest injuries at 9:27 a.m., during surgery at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, a spokesman for the county coroner’s office said.

Brea Police Lt. Don Rogers said the accident occurred while Lydon was outside his car, testing his car lights. Rogers said a 17-year-old boy, described only as a friend of the family, was behind the wheel of the car, helping Lydon with his test, when he inadvertently ran over the older man.
