Share

Vietnam turned over to the United States the remains of five soldiers it tentatively identified as Americans killed in the Vietnam War, a U.S. Embassy spokesman in Bangkok said. A team of 12 U.S. officials flew into Hanoi to take charge of the remains. An American flag was placed atop each of the five metal containers put aboard a C-141 for the flight to Hawaii. The names of the dead were withheld pending positive identification by the Central Identification Laboratory in Honolulu. According to the Pentagon, there are still 2,413 Americans listed as missing in action from the Vietnam War.
