Santa Monica : Study Set on Classes for Elderly

Share

The city will consider offering free driving classes to senior citizens as a way to qualify them for auto insurance discounts.

The City Council, acting on a proposal by Councilman Alan Katz, voted unanimously Tuesday night to instruct the city staff to investigate and report on whether the city can offer the classes. State law entitles drivers over 55 years of age to insurance discounts if they have completed driving courses.

Some cities have begun considering offering those classes free instead of sending seniors to private driving instruction companies.
