Linseman’s Goal Helps Boston to 5-3 Victory Over Winnipeg

Ken Linseman tipped Ray Bourque’s shot past Winnipeg goalie Daniel Berthiaume midway through the third period Thursday night and the Boston Bruins earned their eighth victory in nine National Hockey League games by beating the Jets, 5-3.

After Geoff Courtnall scored the Bruins’ first power-play goal in 18 tries to tie the game at 6:26 of the final period, Linseman came out of the penalty box to give Boston its first lead of the night with his fifth goal of the season.

Steve Kasper, who set up Courtnall’s tying goal, scored a short-handed goal with 4:19 left to complete the scoring.

Thomas Steen gave Winnipeg a 1-0 lead at 17:41 of the first period, but Lyndon Byers tied it for Boston 41 seconds later.

Iain Duncan’s first of two goals put Winnipeg ahead at 1:18 of the second period, but Boston’s Bob Sweeney tied the game again at 7:57.

Duncan’s second goal, on a power play at 10:50 of the second period, gave the Jets their final lead.

“Confidence and momentum are the building blocks of big games and big efforts,” Bruin Coach Terry O’Reilly said.
