Gunman Takes Car, $1 Million in Jewelry
A Sherman Oaks jeweler who said he was loading his car with jewelry cases containing an estimated $1 million in rings, bracelets, diamonds and other gems was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot behind the store, Los Angeles police said Saturday.
Paul Carter, 38, an employee of Melano Jewelry & Gifts, told investigators that he was preparing for a business transaction arranged by another employee Friday when a gunman approached him from behind and demanded his car keys, Officer Tim Cabezas said. The gunman ordered Carter away from the late-model Honda and drove off, officers said.
Neither Carter nor his wife, Ann, who was standing nearby, was hurt.
