Share

The body of a La Crescenta hiker was found at the foot of a 60-foot cliff Tuesday in Dunsmore Canyon, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputies said.

Ronald Tomaino, 49, apparently fell while hiking alone in the rugged foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains about a mile north of Markridge Road in La Crescenta, Deputy Kathryn Nielsen said.

Emmett Jordan, manager of the Circle K Stables on Dunsmore Road, last saw Tomaino setting out at 10 a.m. Sunday for a day of hiking. Tomaino lived at the ranch, where he was a caretaker and watchman, and often hiked alone, Nielson said.

Jordan reported Tomaino missing Monday afternoon after a four-hour search, Glendale police spokesman Dean Durand said.

Glendale police, assisted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team, based in Montrose, searched for six hours Monday and two hours Tuesday before finding Tomaino’s body, Durand said.
