Compton : Arrest in Chamber Theft

Share

A Chamber of Commerce secretary has been arrested on suspicion of embezzling from $15,000 to $20,000 in chamber funds. Ann Glover, 39, who had worked for the chamber since January, was taken into custody Monday by Compton police after a monthlong investigation. Police Detective Richard Rivera declined to comment beyond saying that Glover is the only suspect in the case.

Chamber President Mahiri Patton said officials with the nonprofit business assistance organization are still tallying the “substantial” amount of money missing, but believe it to be in the $15,000 to $20,000 range.

Patton said functions of the chamber, which receives a $30,000 annual subsidy from the city, have not been effected. “The doors are still open,” Patton said. “Anytime monies are missing it has to hurt any organization, but I don’t foresee us closing the office or curtailing any of our activities.”
