Jimmy Stewart returned to the National Press Club in Washington on Wednesday, nearly 50 years after he denounced its fictitious members in the film classic “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.” The 80-year-old thespian was on hand for a benefit showing of the 1939 classic--for which he earned an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of an idealistic young senator--to raise funds for renovation of the club’s library where several scenes in the movie were shot.
