Share

Two men charged with stealing lobsters from a commercial fisherman’s trap off Laguna Beach have each been fined $362, put on one year’s probation and ordered to spend five days on a county work crew, a state Department of Fish and Game warden said Thursday.

Warden Ralph Suggs said David Alan Nelson, 24, of Claremont and Kevin John Lynaugh, 25, of Diamond Bar were caught by wardens as they came ashore near Wood’s Cove.

Suggs said each man was carrying a lobster that had been secretly marked by wardens and placed in a privately owned trap just offshore.

The pair pleaded guilty before Judge Pamela L. Iles in South County Municipal Court last week, Suggs said. The misdemeanor charges carry maximum sentences of $1,000, six months in jail or both.
