Formal disciplinary action has been started against the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in connection with the death last February of pop artist Andy Warhol, state health officials in Albany said. The notice of the action was sent to the hospital by the state Department of Health in a letter that outlined at least six alleged violations, including charges that the medical staff failed to properly monitor Warhol’s case, said department spokeswoman Frances Tarlton. She said that hospitals can be fined up to $1,000 on each violation and that the state has the power to revoke a hospital’s license. Warhol, 53, had gallbladder surgery and died the next day after suffering a heart attack.
