Police said Victor Rojas, 21, of Pacoima was in stable condition at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills. He was found sprawled on the ground by paramedics responding to the 3:30 a.m. train and car accident on the tracks beside San Fernando Road at Pierce Street.

Police said Rojas had dropped a friend off at a housing project on Pierce at Lehigh Avenue. He was sitting in his car when a man walked up and shot him in the upper body with a .22-caliber rifle, police said. The victim immediately fled in his car, which stalled on the nearby tracks, and the freight train hit it a few minutes later.
