Single Rooms for Criminals

Regarding the squabbling over whether one or two men share a cell in the new section of the Orange County Jail:

The morning after reading of the controversy, I saw a man getting up from his “bed” on the concrete bank of the Santa Ana River. The state and the ACLU insist that we, the taxpayers, provide single rooms for convicted criminals, thus removing resources that could be used to provide basic shelter for others. This is illogical.

Hard-working people must often live three or four or more in a one-bedroom apartment because of the cost of housing. What incentive is it to them to see jail inmates get the privilege of living one to a room?

Efforts such as those of the state and the ACLU are very discouraging to the honest, hard-working, taxpaying public.
