Dr. Michael Bilitch, USC Professor, Dies

Dr Michael Bilitch, a noted cardiologist who was director of USC’s pacemaker center, died Friday after a long battle with cancer, his family announced. He was 55.

He was long involved in the field of cardiology and was a founding member and a president of the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology. He authored numerous articles and a book, “Heart Block,” on the subject.

Born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, Bilitch had been associated with USC’s School of Medicine since his student days there. He graduated from the medical school in 1960. In addition to his position with the pacemaker center, he also was a associate professor of medicine at USC.

He is survived by his wife, Alexis; nine children, among them a daughter who is assistant nursing director at County-USC Medical Center, and five grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.
