THE WASHINGTON SUMMIT : Hotels Happy With Summit; Cabbies Aren’t
At least one Washington hotel manager likes the extra business flowing from the U.S.-Soviet summit so much that he is offering his guests “peace cookies,” but for some city cab drivers, the summit is not such good news.
“Man, these foreigners just ain’t tipping enough,” one cabbie complained over the weekend, mentioning in particular foreign journalists here to cover the meeting.
The outlook is brighter for hotel managers. Craig Williams, managing director of the Ritz-Carlton, is giving his guests white “dove of peace” cookies to mark “such an important occasion.”
